Cortland Electronics founded the Queen Anne community network in 1996 to provide high speed access to Queen Anne residents at an affordable cost. With expertise in both the computer networking and microwave fields, the staff at Cortland Electronics were in a unique position to launch this ambitious project. Queen Anne.net offers its members a 1.6 mega bit (50-100 X modem speed), 24 hour a day connection to the Internet. Subscribers have a permanent connection to the Internet without using phone lines or the telephone monopoly.
.
Queen Anne.net is made possible using wireless connectivity employing state of the art microwave technology. The radio frequencies utilized by the Queen Anne.net are much more efficient than modem connections in both speed and consistency. Cortland has full-time direct connections to multiple Internet backbones whose signals it relays to its various repeaters throughout the Queen Anne area; these signals create the wireless network.
